A Fire-Laden Holiday Decoration

Holiday Decoration

According to National Fire Protection Association, each year, fire departments respond to an average of 210 structure fires caused by Christmas trees. U.S. fire department responded to an average of 230 home fires per year between 2007 and 2011 which started with Christmas trees. The resultant fire caused an average of 6 deaths, 22 injuries, and $18.3 million in direct property damage annually. Roughly, 39% home Christmas tree fires started in the living room, family room, or den. Unfortunate and scary!

In a recent interview, Jason Mitchell, first lieutenant at the Huntington Fire Company No. 3, revealed that Christmas time is one of the busiest for him due to the fire contracted by Christmas trees. Second Lt. Don Zak added that not a very long time back, it was possible for people to survive longer in burning buildings but today, due to the presence of home furnishings and artificial Christmas trees, which burn much faster, households and commercial settings pose a higher risk.

Due to lights, candles etc, Christmas trees or holiday season decorations are at an extremely high risk of fire. To prevent the threat of fire during holiday season, we have introduced ThermaLeaf.
